Cavalier pip Harbour View to extend lead atop RSPL
CAVALIER Soccer Club maintained their unbeaten record in the 2014-15 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) with a 1-0 win over Harbour View Football Club at Stadium East yesterday.
Oshane Jenkins got the all-important strike in the 68th minute as the win pushed Cavalier SC to 14 points, thus extending their lead at the top of the standings, while Harbour View remain rooted on five points.
The hosts enjoyed most of the ball possession in the first half and should have gone in front in the 27th minute when Girvon Brown was brought down inside the penalty box by Harbour View’s goalkeeper Levor Williams. However, Williams redeemed himself by saving Brown’s tame shot from the spot.
Harbour View were no slouch in attack and had a few good looks at goal, but nice glovework from Kadeem Davis would deny them.
Cavalier were very composed after the resumption and constructed a string of passes while applying pressure to keep their opponents on the defensive. The Rudolph Speid-coached Cavalier could have opened the scoring on a few occasions had it not been for some stout work in goal by Williams, who did well to fend off a powerful left-footed shot from Dwayne Holmes.
Williams was called upon once more as he placed his body on the line to block a shot from Jenkins, who had got in behind defenders. However, Jenkins would later hit the target when a good build up orchestrated by Chevone Marsh from the middle of the park, sent him behind defenders to easily slot home.
Substitute goalkeeper Shomoyo Morgan, who replaced Kadeem Davis, who had picked up an injury, would ensure that his team come away with all three points when he parried a crunching left-footed shot from Ranique Muir in time added on.
