Flow Cup hunt!
TUCKER, St James — Western Jamaica’s two Red Stripe Premier League teams, Montego Bay United (MBU) and Reno FC will this afternoon seek places in the quarter-finals of the Flow Champions Cup Knock out competition when they host Premier League opponents.
Montego Bay United will host defending champions Waterhouse at Wespow Park in Tucker, while Reno FC and Rivoli United will meet at Frome, the first of two meetings between the clubs over a four-day span.
By a twist of fate, Reno FC will also host Rivoli United in the Red Stripe Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The winners in this round will advance to the quarter-finals set for next week.
It will be the first game for MBU in the knock-out competition after they earned a bye through the first round after being in the top half of the Premier League on December 31 last year, while Reno
FC will be playing their second game after eliminating Lewis Strikers of St Ann 1-0 last week.
It will be the second meeting between MBU and Waterhouse this season, after the Kingston team won their first round Premier League game 3-0 in Kingston in mid-September.
MBU at that time were without several top players, but should be back to full strength, while Waterhouse will be without a number of players who have been included in the national team that travelled to Tokyo to play Japan on Tuesday.
The home team will have another advantage in that they did not play in the Premier League on Sunday, while Waterhouse battled Arnett Gardens in a 0-0 draw on Monday night.
National midfielder Evon Taylor will make his first trip back to Wespow Park since he last played for MBU in last season, and will be seeking to help the visitors get their second win over the home team.
MBU has played well at home this season and are unbeaten in Montego Bay.
Omar Gordon and Allan Ottey are expected to lead the MBU attack as they seek to advance to the top eight, but Waterhouse who have not given up a goal to a local team this season, are expected to be a tough opponent.
Rivoli will also be making their first appearance in the knockout competition and have been impressive so far in the Premier League, but will be playing at Frome for the first time in many years.
The Spanish Town-based club are in second place in the Premier League points tables, winning two and drawing two games to be on eight points – three behind leaders Cavalier, who have played a game more.
Reno FC’s Craig Foster, who got the winning goal against Lewis Strikers last week, has been on fire since the start of the season, scoring five goals in the Premier League.
