PNP’s Basil Waite offered bail on corruption charge
KINGSTON, Jamaica — People’s National Party activist Basil Waite has been offered bail in the sum of $1.5 million.
He was offered bail this morning when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court and is to return on November 10.
Waite was charged by the Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Task Force (MOCA) this morning with attempting to pervert the course of justice following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions earlier this week.
He’s alleged to have interfered in a case currently before the courts.
Basil Waite has been a Senator and a significant member of the PNP including being president of the party’s youth arm.
He has been tipped as a possible candidate for the party in the North East St Elizabeth seat currently held by Raymond Pryce.
