Erskine to replace Roger Clarke in Central Westmoreland
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Attorney-at-law Michael Erskine has been selected by the People’s National Party (PNP) to replace the late Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke in the Central Westmoreland constituency.
A release from the PNP late Monday said that the executive committee of the PNP received and accepted a report from the party’s general secretary regarding the selection of Michael Erskine as the party’s standard bearer.
The PNP said that the party’s executive was advised that among the measures pursued to arrive at a candidate was a scientific poll commissioned by the party by a “noted” local pollster “of good repute and excellent track record”.
It was further noted that those results were consistent with a series of consultations among members of the party’s organisation in Central Westmoreland.
It further stated that over the weekend, a delegation of party officers, including party chairman Bobby Pickersgill, general secretary Paul Burke and deputy general secretaries Luther Buchanan and Raymond Pryce, met with members of the constituency and the results of the polls and other consultations were disclosed and accepted by all.
It is said that the party’s executive unanimously accepted and ratified Michael Erskine’s candidacy.
