C’Bar trounce Eltham 3-0 to advance
Calabar High will move on to the second round to compete in Group H following a 3-0 defeat of Eltham High in their final match in Group F of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/LIME Manning Cup football competition at Calabar High School ground yesterday.
Goals from Omar Walcott in the 14th, Haji Campbell and second half substitute Mario Sailsman gave Calabar the win to finish second after finishing on 22 points to Hydel’s 23 in Group F.
“It is a game we had to win. Eltham had nothing to play for and if we had to top the group then we had to win and the lads did just that to give us a chance,” coach Bradley Stewart said afterwards.
Continuing, Stewart said: “I am pleased with the victory of course, but there are certain areas in our play that we have improved. Not so much our playing ability but sometimes we lapse in our concentration that will give our opponents a look in. Because of our good showing in Group F we will be placed in Group H alongside St George’s College, Wolmer’s and Haile Selassie. In such a group we cannot afford the luxury of hot and cold play that could prove detrimental to our progress in the group in which we now qualify to take part.”
