StGC, JC continue red-hot form
ST George’s College continued their 100 per cent win record with a 7-0 shelling of North Street rivals Kingston College on Saturday.
Waterford still have a chance of coming second in Group A after beating Campion 4-0 at their home.
Excelsior High are now left in a nervous position despite their 4-0 win over Mona High. This is because Vauxhall High are also on 14 points but have a game in hand after they beat Cumberland High 3-1 in Group B’s Friday action.
Denham Town secured progress to round two on Friday with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Edith Dalton High. Innswood High will also be playing in the next round with a 1-0 edge over Ardenne High. In Group C’s other game, St Mary’s College and Tivoli High had a share of the spoils in a 2-2 game on Saturday.
Camperdown went top of Group D for the first time after beating Bridgeport 3-0. Haile Selaisse surrendered the top after a surprising 2-1 defeat to Dunoon Technical. Both teams were already through, however, only first place gets a spot in the Super Cup. Papine High claimed a 1-0 win over Greater Portmore in the group’s other game.
Wolmer’s Boys’ will finish top of the table after dispatching Holy Trinity High 4-0 on Saturday. Both teams will be progressing to round two, however, that match will decide who would leads. A motivated Clan Carthy High ran to a 6-3 win over Spanish Town in the other game in Group E.
Calabar High gave Hydel their first defeat for the season in a much-needed 1-0 victory over the St Catherine-based team. C’Bar are now one point behind the leaders with one set of games remaining. St Jago High are still in contention for progression after beating St Catherine 3-1. They will be hoping for Calabar or Hydel to slip up next week. Group F also saw Eltham High edging Penwood 2-1.
Jamaica College are the only other team to have won all of their matches played so far in the competition and they continued this form with a 3-0 sweep of Norman Manley High. Jonathan Grant and Kinston Technical couldn’t get the better of each other with a 1-1 draw in Group G’s other weekend match.
