Mandeville dermatologist reaches out
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — With a belief in the power of public education in health care, proprietor of Skinnz Dermatology and Wellness Centre in Mandeville Dr Carol Burrell engaged members of the community and its environs through a recent one-day skin care seminar.
She told the Jamaica Observer Central that activities related to taking care of the skin is connected to general health and as such being proactive was necessary.
“I think education is very important,” said Burrell.
Speaking on the topic Gorgeous, Glowing, Healthy Skin Starts From Within she emphasised that genetic inheritance determines the basic features of the skin but proper skin care including protection from environmental hazards, drinking adequate water, physical activity, nutrition, rest and stress management were crucial.
The medical practitioner said that in addition to the skin, care of the hair and nails are also areas of concern.
Together, she believes, they contribute to how an individual feels about him or herself as “when you look good you feel good”.
Burrell, who has been practicing in Mandeville since 1991, said that organising the seminar at a minimal cost was a way to give back to the community and it attracted persons from within Manchester, Clarendon and St Elizabeth.
“People were very excited about it. We had all age groups,” she said.
Representatives from the pharmaceutical industry and nutrition companies were among the participants at the Mandeville Hotel.
The Mandeville event was the second of two seminars.
The first was held in Montego Bay, where Burrell also practices.
