Tivoli edge Reno
TIVOLI Gardens FC secured their first win of the 2014-15 Red Stripe Premier League season when they defeated Reno FC 2-1 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex yesterday.
The win pushed the former champions to five points, while Reno were suffering their first defeat of the campaign to remain on five points.
Kemar Flemmings (22nd) and Jamoy Sibbles (45th) got the goals for the hosts, before Craig Foster pulled one back for Reno in the 69th minute.
Both teams looked shaky at the start, but it was Reno who settled on the ball first and launched a few attacks which amounted to little as their shots sailed wide of the upright. Tivoli came into their own and put together a string of passes, but were not able to break down the Reno defence.
However, their consistent pressure finally brought success when Keammar Daley orchestrated a build up from the middle of the park and picked out Flemmings whose intended cross from the right flank sailed over the head of Reno goalkeeper Devaughn Hawthone.
The game began to get physical and was slowly losing its attractiveness until Sibbles got in behind defenders to slot home on the stroke of half-time to send Tivoli 2-0 up at the break.
Tivoli picked up where they left off on the other side of the break and mounted a string of attacks, but could not get the ball in the back of the net. Those missed chances would later haunt them when an intended back pass by Rohan Reid was picked up by Foster who held his composure and fired past a hesitant Deron Duncan.
The visitors came to life thereafter as Tivoli began to slowly lose their composure both on and off the field as coach Alvin Shaw was ordered off the bench after an outburst when referee Leon Brown allowed the game to play on with goalkeeper Duncan on the ground.
Tivoli could have won by a wider margin had substitute Elton Thompson made better use of a one-on-one with the goalkeeper in time added on.
