Denham Town stop Edith Dalton James 3-2
UNDEFEATED Denham Town High, playing with 10 in the dying stages of the game, defeated bottom-placed Edith Dalton James 3-2 to remain atop Group C in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) LIME Manning Cup football competition at Edward Seaga Sport Complex yesterday.
Denham Town moved to 21 points, with a three-point lead over second-placed Innswood High, who were also winners on the day. Both teams are scheduled to face each other in their final game in the group and the winner here are certain to progress to compete in the Walker Cup and LIME Super Cup.
A win for Denham Town will give them an unassailable lead, while should Innswood High win they will advance on a better goal difference.
In yesterday’s game, Denham Town opened the scoring in the 10th minute from an own goal by Oneil Blackwood of Edith Dalton James.
Playing as though their lives depended on victory in this match, Edith Dalton James equalised in minute 35 through Marlon Laing. The score remained unchanged from then on, until the 58th minute when Junior McGregor put Denham Town back in front 2-1. Shane Pryce, who blotted his copybook by being sent off in time added, gave Denham Town a 3-1 cushion in the 75th minute, but Edith Dalton were not yet finished as Laing stepped up to convert from the penalty spot for his second of the match to reduce the deficit in the 90th minute.
