Shoot-out victory
BOYS’ Town Football Club secured their spot in the second round of the Flow Champions Cup knockout competition after stopping Lucea FC 5-3 on penalties at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.
The Premier League outfit were made to toil as the visitors left nothing to chance, which saw the game ending goal-less in regular and extra time. Winning coach Andrew Price was happy with the win, but disappointed with the performance.
“Coming off the high of the Monday night (Premier League) victory against Humble Lion, it was always going to be very hard to get the team up and running against a lower-ranked opposition, and you saw that today (yesterday).
“The good thing is that they played hard and they stuck to the task and we got the desired result, which is to move on to the next round. It wasn’t what we expected, but the team has to learn from these experiences,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Lucea FC coach, Marlon Gray, was left lamenting the loss after his team failed to capitalise from numerous chances. “I am very disappointed… the plan was to come here and run for the 90 minutes. We created chances but when you don’t put away your chances this is what the result will be.
We took it to penalties and couldn’t hold out. But such is the game; the better team won today so hats off to Boys’ Town,” he stated.
Meanwhile, four players got on the score sheet as Tivoli Gardens blanked St George’s SC 4-0, while another Premier League club Sporting Central FC eased past UWI FC 2-0.
Granville FC also secured secondround berth with a 3-0 victory over Bucknor United FC. The late fixture between Lewis Strikers FC and Reno FC was goal-less at press time.
The competition continues today with Premier League outfits Barbican FC and Cavalier SC doing battle at UWI Bowl, Mona, in the lone fixture.
