Manchester bounce back with 5-0 win over Belair
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — A day after losing six points after they were deemed guilty of using an ineligible player in two games, Manchester High bounced back with a 5-0 win over Belair High and once again secured a place in the Inter-Zone round of the ISSA/LIME daCosta cup schoolboy football competition.
Insamnia Cohen scored twice in the win that took Manchester High to 13 points, while Mile Gully High’s 2-0 win over DeCarteret College ended the losers’ brief flirtation with qualification to the Inter-zone round.
The loss of the six points had dropped Manchester High out of first place and for about 24 hours out of a qualifying spot in the Inter-zone round.
Belair High did little to help themselves as they scored two own goals in the first 17 minutes to take Manchester High to an early lead, while Kevaughn Isaacs also scored.
Manchester High will, however, finish second in the zone behind Mile Gully who are on 22 points and will play in Zone Three of the Inter-zone round where they will be grouped with defending champions St Elizabeth Technical.
Petersfield High failed to retake the lead in Zone D after they were held goal-less by Black River and are on 15 points, one behind leaders Godfrey Stewart High with one game to be played.
In Montego Bay, St James High completed their Zone A schedule on a high with a 8-0 beating of Irwin High, snapping a three-game losing streak that knocked them out of Inter-zone contention.
Meanwhile today, the winner of Zone I will be decided as the first round ends with three games including a double header at Drax Hall,
Leaders Cedric Titus on 22 points take on Browns Town High at Addison Park while second-placed Marcus Garvey meeting Ocho Rios High in the second game at Drax Hall.
In the first game at Drax Hall, Steer Town and York Castle will meet, starring at 1:30 pm.
