No shortage of paracetamol, says ministry
ACTING Chief Medical Officer Dr Marion Bullock DuCasse says there is no shortage of paracetamol tablets and syrup in the public health sector.
Dr Ducasse, in a release yesterday, said that contrary to reports in the media the Ministry of Health, through the National Health Fund which manages pharmaceuticals, has an adequate supply of the drug.
Paracetamol such as Panadol, Cetamol and Tylenol are used in the treatment and management of the chikungunya virus.
“We have our regular supply in addition to an emergency stock. We also have supplies on order which can be accessed quickly if the need arises. At this time we do not have a shortage and adequate supplies are in stock to satisfy the present demand,” she said.
Dr DuCasse, meanwhile, has urged the regional health authorities to pay close attention to their inventory management systems, especially in the chikungunya affected parishes so that stocks can be delivered in a timely manner.
She added that the ministry would continue to put measures in place to facilitate a continuation of its holistic response to the chikungunya outbreak.
