Accused in Mario Deane’s case return to court tomorrow
MONTEGO BAY, St James
THE two inmates and three police officers charged in the beating death of Mario Deane will return to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court tomorrow when the case will be mentioned.
Adrian Morgan and Marvin Orr, who were in the same cell as Deane when he was beaten in early August, have been charged with murder and were declared fit to answer the charges by a Government psychiatrist after they were said to be mentally ill.
Woman Corporal Elaine Stewart, district constables Marlon Grant and Juliana Clevon were last week arrested and charged and later offered bail in the sum of $400,000 with surety.
Stewart was charged with manslaughter, attempting to pervert the course of justice and misconduct in a public office. Grant has been charged with manslaughter and misconduct in a
public office, while Clevon was only charged with misconduct in a public office.
The three were among six police officers who were either interdicted or suspended as a result of investigations by the Independent Commission of Investigations into the August 3 beating of the 31-year-old construction worker. Deane died in hospital three days later.
