LIME Super Cup tour treks to STETHS
On Monday, the new LIME Super Cup trophy made a visit to the St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) — a school nestled in a valley between rolling hills which has brought much glory to itself and the parish, particularly in schoolboy football.
The current defending daCosta Cup champions, their hope is that their 10-win record since 1974 will be buttressed as they work to take the first LIME Super Cup trophy home.
Students and members of staff got the privilege of seeing the glistening crystal trophy up close and personal as it was unveiled and exhibited at the school during the LIME Super Cup Trophy Tour.
This was the second stop in an eight-school tour and its first time at a school from the daCosta Cup competition.
Principal Keith Wellington was enthused with the new competition and said, “I like the idea and the students are excited that they will be playing in a knockout format nationally.”
Head coach Omar ‘Rambo’ Wedderburn was also high on the competition and looked forward to the benefits. “It is particularly interesting in that you start getting revenue from the start,” said Wedderburn.
“It will motivate the staff and the players to want to move on in the competition. When you consider that there is a million dollars to win, the principal wants us to do well and the bursar will want us to do well. It is a worthwhile one for the schools,” he added.
‘Rambo’ was also looking forward to settling an annual argument. “The LIME Super Cup will ease everyone’s burden and everyone’s thinking as to who is best, country or town. I am looking forward to it,” he concluded.
STETHS are currently undefeated this season and are odds-on favourites to finish first in their group to secure a place in the inter-zone play-offs.
