LIME ready to partner with Gov’t in Chic-V fight
LIME Jamaica yesterday expressed a willingness to partner with Government in its bid to help stem the spread of the chikungunya virus.
In a press release yesterday, the telecommunications firm said it has, since Monday, been making its network available for the dissemination of much-needed information on the virus via text messages.
“Our company is naturally concerned about the quality of our customers and, indeed, all Jamaican lives. We’ll therefore do whatever it takes to ensure the safest possible environment for all of our citizens,” said LIME Jamaica CEO Garry Sinclair.
Sinclair said it was his company’s intention to use technology and its vast telecommunications platform to facilitate wide-scale sharing of public health information.
Meanwhile, LIME intends to partner with the Ministry of Health for the staging of a national clean-up day as soon as the date is set. The clean-up will have as its primary mandate to galvanise national efforts around destroying mosquito-breeding sites in all communities.
“… As a small developing nation, we can’t expect our government to do everything. All of us have a responsibility to ensure our beautiful island is kept clean and not conducive to the spread of disease,” said Sinclair.
