Cedric Titus book Inter-zone berth
CLARKS TOWN, Trelawny — Cedric Titus High School became the fourth school to qualify for the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup competition after scoring an exciting come from behind 2-1 win over Marcus Garvey in their return-round Zone I game in Clarks Town yesterday.
Theodore Hopwood and Chadwick Maxwell scored in the second half for Cedric Titus to rebound from their 2-2 draw against York castle High on Tuesday and beat Marcus Garvey for the second time this season.
Cedric Titus improved to 19 points and join Clarendon College, Muschett High and Frome Technical as the teams that have already secured berths in the 32-team Inter-zone round.
Daniel Green had scored against the run of play in the first half for Marcus Garvey, who stayed in second place on 15 points, but can advance on Saturday with a win over York Castle.
Munro College’s hopes of advancing took another big hit after they were held 1-1 at Lacovia and they stayed in third place on 11 points, one behind Lacovia who have a game in hand.
St Elizabeth Technical — playing without five starters including influential strikers Donjay Smith, who has been hospitalised with symptoms similar to the Chikungunya virus — beat Newell High 4-1 to stay in the lead with 19 points.
Glenmuir High and Garvey Maceo both won to move clear in Zone M, while Glenmuir beat Bustamante High 6-1 and Garvey Maceo beat Denbigh High 3-1 as both moved to 13 points and within touching distance of the Inter-zone round.
Holmwood Technical’s march to the next round was slowed after they were surprised 3-1 by Alston High in Zone G, but still lead with 10 points.
Green Pond took a big step in Zone A by clipping St James High 1-0, sending the former champions to back-to-back losses. Green Pond were winning for the third-straight game and are in second place on 10 points, five behind leaders Cornwall College.
