Muschett, Frome keep winning streak going
WAKEFIELD, Trelawny — Muschett High and former champions Frome Technical won their fourth straight games yesterday and qualified for the Inter-zone round of the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition, joining early qualifiers Clarendon College.
Muschett High beat William Knibb Memorial 2-0 at Wakefield for their fourth straight win and secured Zone C honours, while Frome Technical are through from Zone B after a 1-0 win over Green Island at Frome.
They joined Clarendon College, who were the first qualifiers as they won five straight games to top Zone H with 15 points.
Yesterday, Horace Gordon and Davin Spence scored for Muschett High as they beat William Knibb for the second time this season to improve to an unbeatable 12 points.
At Frome, the home team edged Green Island High 1-0 through a first-half goal from Ekron Scott as they also advanced with 12 points.
It was revenge of sorts for Frome, who only advanced last season as one of the best third-placed teams after Green Island got second place ahead of them with a late surge.
It will take a miracle for Green Island to advance this year as Rusea’s High will need only a point from their two remaining games to take the other qualifying spot.
As the race for places in the Inter-zone round heats up, three schools avenged first-round loss yesterday.
Dinthill Technical turned the tables on Charlemont to take over the lead in Zone K, Titchfield beat Fair Prospect and Paul Bogle got the better of Morant Bay High.
Rodave Murray scored twice for Dinthill Technical in their 4-0 win as they moved to 13 points. Necko Francis and Mario Nelson got the other goals.
Charlemont have not won in three games since they beat Dinthill 1-0 in the first round.
Oneil Byfield and Dwight McKenzie scored for Titchfield in their 2-1 win over Fair Prospect, who had won the first-round game 1-0 in Zone L.
Paul Bogle edged Morant Bay 2-1 in their Zone O game to avenge their first-round loss as Seaforth High took over the lead after beating Robert Lightbourne 5-0 as Alwayne Powell scored a hat-trick.
Kemps Hill took over the lead in the competitive Zone N after edging Tacius Golding 1-0, moving to 16 points. Vere Technical joined Old Harbour High on 14 points after handing them their first loss of the season.
