Dunoon tag Bridgeport for first win
BOTTOM of the table dwellers Dunoon Technical shocked two-time champions Bridgeport High School 1-0 to register their first win of the season in the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup football competition at the Rockfort playing field yesterday.
It was a match where Bridgeport played all the football but victory went to Dunoon, as Marvin Henry stroked the winning goal from the penalty spot in time added. The win added filip to the confidence of last year’s Colts runners-up to Kingston College, while the defeat ruined the campaign of Bridgeport in their desperate bid to get back into serious contention at the top of Group D. They remain third in the points standing on seven points. Dunoon moved to four points.
“We are all delighted to win our first match in the Manning Cup competition. The win is also encouraging as this is a very young team that we have been working diligently with, and for them to come and win this one was really encouraging,” coach Gregory Hall opined.
His Bridgeport counterpart Tyrone Roberts was, however, not so pleased with his team’s performance, stating that his players “looked tired and lackadaisical” in their approach. “Nonetheless, we just have to continue to work towards getting the better results that I know this bunch of youngsters are most capable.”
