VP signs first African artiste Blakk Rasta
GHANA’S reggae artiste Blakk Rasta has inked a three-year contract with VP records.
According to an article posted on www.ghanaweb.com, the entertainer is the first Ghanaian artiste to be signed on the American-based reggae label.
“I have been looking forward to this all along but ‘Jah’ made it happen now and as we say, the right time is when it happens. Nothing happens before its time,” said Black Rasta.
“We worked so hard on tours, doing festivals and recording side by side. Sometimes I felt I was passing out on stage but pushed on when I reminded myself I couldn’t let Africa down,” he added.
VP Label manager Donovan Williams shared similar sentiments saying that they are
confident that the artiste will overcome hurdles associated with being an African reggae artiste.
“He has the energy and vision and that for me is the thing. We are already impatient for a new album from him,” Williams said.
Blakk Rasta, 40, released his debut album Rasta Shrine in 2000. The singer, whose real name is Abubakar Ahmed, is best known for songs including Afreeka Swit, Keep on Rocking, More Fyah and Kunta Kinte.
