Manchester High in ineligible player probe
MANCHESTER High could lose six of their 12 points in the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup if allegations that they used an ineligible player are substantiated.
It is understood that Manchester High, who lead Zone F with four straight wins and have scored 24 unanswered goals, fell foul of the transfer rules.
Reports reaching the Jamaica Observer are that the player transferred to Manchester High in January this year after representing his former school in the competition last year.
He was successful in his CXC examinations and qualified for sixth form at the Mandeville-based institution.
The revised ISSA rules, however, state that athletes transferring from one school to the next, with the exception of going directly into sixth form, must miss a season.
The player would then not be eligible to represent Manchester High in any ISSA run sporting competition until January 2015.
When contacted, ISSA’s competitions director George Forbes would not go into details, except to say they had a report and “would be looking into it soon”.
Efforts to contact Manchester High officials yesterday proved futile.
It is not known which games the player had taken part in, but Manchester High have won all their games so far, beating DeCarteret College 4-0, Mile Gully 3-0, Belair 7-0 and Cross Keys 10-0.
Last season Clarendon College were docked six points for using an ineligible player, but still won their zone to advance to the Ben Francis Knockout competition.
