6 schools remain perfect
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Six schools including former champions Cornwall College, Frome Technical and Clarendon College all maintained perfect win records yesterday as the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup football competition reached the midway mark of the first round.
Cornwall College and Frome scored wins in derby matches against St James High and Rusea’s High, respectively, while Clarendon College were easy winners over Thompson Town in Zone H to win their fourth straight game.
Manchester High continued their high scoring ways with a 10-0 spanking of Cross Keys, while Cedric Titus made it five straight wins, beating Brown’s Town 4-1 in Zone I.
Meanwhile, St Elizabeth Technical High School’s (STETHS) winning run came to a halt as they were held 0-0 by Munro College in Santa Cruz in their St Elizabeth derby.
Lacovia High, who beat BB Coke 1-0, moved to 12 points, one behind STETHS, as Munro College moved to seven points and into third place on goal difference over BB Coke.
At Jarrett Park, Jourdaine Fletcher scored in his third straight game for Cornwall College as they turned back St James High 2-0 to extend their lead at the top of Zone A.
An own goal in the 33rd minute had given Cornwall College the lead as they raced to 12 points from four straight wins, five more than St James High; the game between Anchovy High and Green Pond was not played. It is understood that Gregory Daley, Green Pond’s coach, protested the state of the Anchovy field.
Frome Technical got goals from Ekron Scott and Jermaine Clarke to beat Rusea’s High 2-1 at Frome Sports Grounds to take sole leadership in Zone B with nine points.
Green Island got their first win of the season, beating Merlene Ottey 3-1.
Clarendon College eased to a 4-0 win over Thompson Town in a return-round game after beating them 5-0 in the first round.
Isamnia Cohen scored four goals for the second straight game, as Manchester High romped over Cross Keys. Kevaughn Isaacs and Romario Squire also got two goals each for Manchester High.
At Wakefield, Trelawny, Chaddane Linton scored three times to lead Cedric Titus to their 4-1 win, as Marcus Garvey kept pace in second place with a similar margin over Ocho Rios High.
Muschett High won their third straight game in Zone C, beating Spot Valley 2-0 as the St James school lost for the third straight time and are yet to score a goal of their own.
Glenmuir High were also winners yesterday, beating arch-rivals Garvey Maceo, last season’s beaten finalists 2-0 to take over the lead in Zone M on 10 points.
Paul Bogle High won for the first time this season, beating Robert Lightbourne 6-0 with braces from Maurice Anderson and Remalio Wilson.
Oracabessa High beat St Mary Technical 2-0 in a surprise result to avenge a first-round loss, while Brimmervale also avenged a first-round loss, beating St Mary High 3-1.
