W’House make RSPL debut against nemesis Montego Bay
AFTER possibly failing to make it to the quarter-final stages of the 2014 CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday, Waterhouse will today turn their attention to the Red Stripe Premier League hoping for better results as they face last season’s champions Montego Bay United in a late kick-off at Stadium East at 6:00 pm.
Both Waterhouse and Montego Bay United were last season’s RSPL finalists, with Montego Bay winning the title.
While Waterhouse will be making their debut because of earlier CONCACAF engagements, Montego Bay launched their season with a 1-1 draw against Reno from Westmoreland.
It is still early in the season, but both teams should be in readiness for the clash, though Waterhouse may be in better physical shape than their conquerors last season, having been playing at a higher level.
Nonetheless, the expectation is that, with Waterhouse being encouraged by their good showing against DC United, they should register a victory over the champions.
Indications are however, that Waterhouse, though appearing to be in better readiness than MoBay United, may not be at full strength as a number of players are said to be affected by the chikungunya virus and Evan Taylor, formerly of Montego Bay, could also miss the tie as he limped off in the latter stages of the game against DC United at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
The bottom line is that both teams are expected to go headlong into the tie to search for the maximum three points.
It is a foregone conclusion that any of Jermaine Anderson, Juvaune Benjamin, Kenroy Howell along with Romario Campbell, Neiko Williams Hughan Gray and Cordel Benbow could start for Waterhouse. For the St James outfit, Ronaldo Rodney, who scored in the opener against Reno, the dependable Dino Williams, Omar Gordon and Allan Ottey are capable of staging a response.
