STETHS in a romp over Lacovia
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) continued their smooth sailing in Zone E of the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup football competition after a 3-1 win over Lacovia High in their top-of-the-zone clash at the STETHS Sports Complex yesterday.
Both teams went into the game locked on nine points, but Jovoney Brown scored twice and Donjay Smith got the other one as STETHS scored their fourth straight win and opened up a three-point lead at the top.
This was STETHS’ seventh straight win over their close neighbours who scored for the first time against STETHS in four years.
BB Coke moved closer to second-laced Lacovia with their second straight win, beating Newell High 2-0 to improve to seven points.
Munro College snapped their two-game losing streak with a 4-0 thrashing of Maggotty High.
Cedric Titus High also scored a fourth straight win, edging Ocho Rios High 1-0 at Drax Hall.
Clarendon College, who were seeking a fourth straight win, had their game blown off in the first half due to lightning, one of several games that were affected by adverse weather conditions yesterday.
St Mary Technical had their three-game win streak snapped as they were held 0-0 by Brimmervale High.
Cornwall College won their third straight game, hammering Irwin High 11-0 in their Zone A game at Irwin.
Akeem McCarthy and Jourdaine Fletcher scored three each, while Alrick Ottey, Peter-Lee Vassell, Venton Evans and a defender got the other goals as Cornwall stayed in the lead with nine points.
St James High beat Anchovy High 5-0 to stay in second place as Neil Clarke grabbed a hat-trick.
Manchester High went on a scoring spree against Belair High, winning 7-0 to record their third straight win in Zone F.
Rusea’s High and Frome set up a mouth-watering Zone B clash on Saturday after winning their second games. Rusea’s beat Green Island 2-1 and Frome blanked Merlene Ottey High 2-0.
Petersfield High took over the lead in Zone D after a 3-0 win over Black River with Akeem Whyte and Melvin McKenzie both getting their second goal of the season, while Grange Hill had their first win of the season after beating Mannings School 2-0.
There are two games scheduled for today, both in Zone K, and both Ewarton High and Charlemont could join leaders Dinthill Technical on nine points if they can secure wins.
Ewarton High face McGrath High, while Charlemont, who had their winning start snapped after two wins, will take on Bog Walk High.
