Petersfield edge Mannings 2-1
SAV-LA-Mar, Westmoreland — Petersfield High came from a goal down to beat Mannings School 2-1 in a rescheduled ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup Zone D game played in Sav-la-Mar yesterday.
It was Petersfield’s first win since 2012 after they sat out last year’s competition.
Akeem Whyte equalised for Petersfield as the teams were tied at 1-1 at half-time before Melvin McKenzie got the winner in the second half as Petersfield High moved into second place on four points, behind leaders Godfrey Stewart High.
Godfrey Stewart High and Petersfield have a game in hand after their game last week was blown off early due to reported spectator violence at Petersfield.
Three more games will be played today, including Marcus Garvey Technical seeking to rebound from their loss to Cedric Titus on Saturday, snapping a 15-game unbeaten run in Zone I dating back to the 2012 season.
Marcus Garvey take on Steer Town, who they beat twice last season on their way to topping the zone.
Steer Town have won once this season so far, matching the total from last season’s inaugural campaign and could face a tough Marcus Garvey team trying to stay in touch with leaders Cedric Titus.
In Zone K, leaders Dinthill Technical will seek to move farther away from the rest of the field when they face McGrath High at Dinthill.
Dinthill, last season’s zone winners, lead Charlemont High on goal difference, both on six points but Charlemont will be idle today.
Bog Walk edged Ewarton High last year for second place and a spot in the Inter-zone round and both teams will meet at the Bramwell Clarke Sports Centre, tied on three points each.
Ewarton beat Bog Walk once last year and drew the other game after losing twice in the 2012 season.
Bog Walk are, however, coming off a 0-3 loss to Dinthill on Saturday, while Ewarton ended Charlemont’s great start with a big 4-0 win.
