Former champs H’View, Tivoli in dull draw
Former champions Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View battled to a lacklustre 0-0 draw at the Edward Seaga Stadium yesterday a result which kept them winless after two rounds of the Red Stripe Premier League.
Tivoli Gardens, who drew 1-1 with Humble Lion last week inched to two points. Harbour View, who lost 0-1 to Arnett Gardens, earned their first point of the season.
Being two of the traditional title contenders, the game never lived up to expectations and the supporters of both teams must have been extremely disappointed.
Both coaches were unhappy with the result. Tivoli Gardens head coach, Alvin Shaw, believed his team’s lack of a proper pre-season was the cause for their poor performance.
“It’s going to take patience because we had no pre-season. We are still in pre-season mood. We had our difficulties and we didn’t start training as we wanted to,” said Shaw.
“We have a lot of things to do in terms of ball work, so it’s going to take patience,” he reiterated.
Andrew Hines of Harbour View blamed the poor playing surface.
“The playing surface wasn’t conducive for football. We play from the back and it didn’t help us,” Hines lamented.
“It’s still early season, but just four shots on goal is not good enough and we will have to fix that,” he added.
By and large, it wasn’t a good game for spectators and the only excitement came too late when hard-tackling defender Ranike Anderson picked up his second yellow card in time added for a c foul on Jermie Lynch, having been shown the yellow card in the 33rd minute.
