COK awards scholarships, grants
COK Sodality Co-operative Credit Union has awarded over half a million dollars in academic bursaries, grants, and scholarships to primary, secondary and tertiary students who have performed exceptionally at their respective levels.
At its recently concluded awards ceremony for the annual scholarship programme, students were awarded cash incentives through the Paul Chevannes Scholarship, the Carter-Carter Scholarship, the Bertie Morris Scholarship and the Margaret Rodgers Foundation Grant programme.
The Paul Chevannes Scholarship, valued at $75,000, is issued every two years to a student who is pursuing tertiary studies.
Carter-Carter scholarships were awarded to students who would be returning to high school, and who excelled at both academics and extra-curricular activities. Each scholarship is valued at $20,000 per annum for five years.
The Bertie Morris Scholarship covers primary through to secondary-level studies, and awards were given to employees’ children, 12 years and younger, who attained at least a B+ average.
The Margaret Rodgers Foundation Grant for secondary-level studies, valued at an annual sum of $25,000 for five years, is the only COK Sodality scholarship support that requires the recipient to be a resident of Kingston and St Andrew, have grave financial need, and attain high academic standard.
In her message to the recipients, Jacqueline Mighty, CEO, COK Sodality Credit Union, said the credit union is confident that in helping to enrich these children’s educational experiences, it will put them on the right path to understanding the importance of investing in their futures.
