St Mary Technical remain perfect in Zone J
RICHMOND, St Mary — St Mary Technical High made it three straight wins in Zone J of the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition after beating Islington High 2-1 in their first-round game at the Richmond Farm Sports Complex yesterday.
The win moved St Mary Technical to a perfect nine points, well ahead of the rest of the zone after St Mary High and Oracabessa High ended 0-0 in their game in Highgate.
St Mary High edged up to second place on four points with the point yesterday ahead of Brimmervale High.
Old Harbour High took over sole possession of the lead in Zone N with seven points after edging Kemps Hill 1-0 in their top-of-the-table clash at Soya Oval.
Both schools went into the game on four points but the win, Old Harbour’s second of the season, gave them the clear lead.
Former champions Vere Technical as well as Tacius Golding both scored their first win of the season. Vere Technical blanked Central High 2-0, while Tacius Golding had a similar score line against Foga Road, bringing them back to earth. Foga Road were coming off a win against Central high on Tuesday.
In Zone H, Clarendon College won their second straight game, beating Edwin Allen High 2-1 with goals from Dusean Campbell and Segal Knight.
The win moved Clarendon College past Edwin Allen into the lead.
Javis Ferron scored for Thompson Town as they snapped a two-game losing streak to score their first win of the season.
Meanwhile, former champions Rusea’s High and Herbert Morrison will enter the competition today when five more games are scheduled.
The Aaron Lawrence era at Rusea’s High will start when the 10-time champions take on Merlene Ottey High at Pondside in Zone B, while Green Island and Frome Technical will renew their rivalry.
In Zone C, Herbert Morrison High play away to Muschett High, while Spot Valley host William Knibb Memorial.
In one game in Zone I, Steer Town and Brown’s Town will seek their first win of the season when they meet at Drax Hall.
