Marshall hits four as Anchovy High get off the mark
ANCHOVY, St James — Renaldo Marshall scored all four goals as Anchovy High won their first game in the ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup schoolboys football competition since the 2011 season, beating Irwin high 4-1 in their rescheduled daCosta Cup Zone A game played at Anchovy yesterday.
After losing all eight games played last season and scoring just three times, Anchovy High have jumped into the lead in Zone A on maximum three points. Last year’s zone winners Green Pond High and former champions St James High are tied on one point each after drawing 1-1 on Saturday evening at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Richard Poyser scored for Irwin High who are returning to the competition after a break.
Seven more games are scheduled to be played today with Zone J rivals St Mary Technical and St Mary High, both winners on Saturday, meeting while Central High and Old Harbour will also seek back to back wins in Zone N.
St Mary Technical, the zone winners last year and St Mary High are tied on the same statistics after 1-0 wins on Saturday over Oracabessa High and Brimmervale High respectively on Saturday.
St Mary Technical has dominated the rivalry over the last five seasons, beating St Mary High once each season and drawing the other.
If Old Harbour High can beat Vere Technical today they would surpass the one win they had all of last season; they beat Foga Road 3-1 on Saturday and will seek to win back-to-back for the first time in three seasons.
Central High edged Tacius Golding 1-0 on Saturday and will face Foga Road today; Central won 7-0 when the two last met in the return round last season.
