Calabar off with a bang
CALABAR High made a positive start in Group F of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association ISSA/LIME Manning Cup with a convincing 5-0 win over Penwood High at Red Hills Road yesterday.
Rashawn Barrett in the fifth minute, Kevin Thompson (25th), Brandon Webster (27th), Omar Walcott (68th) and Mikel Graham (90th) were the goal scorers.
Calabar were ruthless in attack as they outclassed their opponents and would have won by a wider margin had it not been for complacency and faulty finishing.
Winning coach Bradley Stewart hailed his team for a strong showing, while in the same breath, expressed disappointment about their lack of composure in front of goal.
“Obviously, we were stronger than our opponents and given how the first half went, we would have expected to score more goals in the second half,” Stewart told the Jamaica Observer.
As expected, Calabar dictated the terms from the first whistle and supporters knew they were in for a treat when Barrett slipped past defenders and put them 1-0 up.
Meanwhile, Hydel blanked St Jago High 1-0 and St Catherine High and Eltham played out a goalless stalemate in other Group F matches.
