Los Perfectos, GC Foster in bitter quest for mid-season final
LOS Perfectos FC and GC Foster College FC are expected to be engaged in a fierce tussle for a spot in the mid-season final when they meet in Zone B of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Sherwin Williams Premier League at Brooks Park, Manchester, today.
All games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.
Los Perfectos FC are currently atop the group with a superior goal difference as both teams are locked on 15 points. The home advantage will be a major boost for the women from Central Jamaica as they seek to continue their relentless goal-scoring form, having already netted 28 goals in five games.
Roheema ‘Pinky’ Bennett now has nine goals to her name after she netted twice in their recent 3-1 win over Harbour View FC. Bennett, along with Shenika ‘Maestro’ Williams, who has five goals, will lead the attack.
However, last year’s beaten finalist GC Foster College are the only team in the competition yet to concede a goal, and their defensive acumen is sure to make things difficult for their opponents. The St Catherine-based team also packs a punch in attack, having scored 24 goals, their prolific form highlighted by a recent 9-0 clobbering of Real Morant Strikers.
The other games will see third-placed UWI Women’s FC (nine points) facing archrival Boys’ Town Wildcats (one point), who are currently in sixth place, while fifth-placed Harbour View FC (four points) should return to winning ways when they take on cellar dwellers Real Morant Strikers (one point). Fourth-placed St James Women’s Academy (seven points) will be idle today.
Meanwhile, defending champions Barbican FC (15 points) continue to lead Zone A and have secured their spot in the mid-season final after they blanked Olympic Gardens 5-0. The many-time champions will now seek to extend their unbeaten run when they face fifth-place Trelawny Women’s FC (four points).
Waterhouse FC (12 points) have moved up to second place with a 5-1 win over Trelawny and could secure another three points against neighbours Olympic Gardens FC (two points), who are currently in sixth place.
The other game will see third-placed Arnett Gardens (nine points) going up against bottom-of-the-table Rangers FC (one point), while Portmore Strikers will be the zone’s team on rest.
