Sandals brings health and services clinic to Lilliput
MONTEGO BAY, St James — SANDALS Resorts in the Montego Bay region, in collaboration with the Social Development Commission, (SDC) will tomorrow host a one-day free health and social services clinic for residents in and around the community of Lilliput in St James.
The health and social services clinic, scheduled to open at 10:00 am at the Leanora Morris Basic School, will feature a number of basic medical services, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing and heart checks being offered by MoBay Hope and Cornwall Regional Hospital.
A team from the St James Health Department will also be on hand to administer Rapid HIV tests and counselling.
Additionally, persons attending the clinic will have an opportunity to get their NIS and TRN cards processed, have issues concerning birth, marriage and death certificates addressed, and gather a wealth of information from the various entities present, including the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, National Land Agency, Tax Administration Department, the Consumer Affairs Commission and the Registrar General’s Department.
Particularly thrilled about Sandals’ decision to host this year’s clinic in the community of Lilliput is Councillor for the area, Jason Cummings.
Cummings noted that despite the fact that these services are available, many persons within the community do not have the time or resources required to access them.
“For Sandals to bring these entities together and bring them to the people of Lilliput is indeed commendable,” he said, “especially for the elderly residents, a clinic of this nature makes a world of difference.”
The Sandals team is also equally enthused about this year’s clinic, which is an extension of last year’s event in the John’s Hall community.
“The development of a country begins with developing our communities and the people within them,” said public relations manager, Rochelle Forbes.
“At Sandals we believe in community development and we are committed to playing a role in bringing together entities to achieve this common goal. The health and social services clinic is simply an extension of this commitment.”
