Brave Waterhouse fall 0-1 to DC United
WATERHOUSE FC suffered their first loss in their CONCACAF Champions League campaign after going down to D C United 1-0 on a soggy RFK Stadium in Washington on Wednesday evening.
Waterhouse entered the game full of confidence following their creditable 2-1 away win against Tauro FC of Panama two weeks ago, but were surprised in the fifth minute by Eddie Johnson.
Johnson, playing among a largely second-string DC United team, was given a simple task to beat Waterhouse goalkeeper Richard McCalluum from close up after centre back Conor Shanosky found striker David Estrada with a long ball on the left flank. Estrada then drove into the box and found Johnson moving into position to beat McCallum from close up.
While keeping DC in check, Waterhouse managed a few long range shots in the first half through Vincent Earle, Jermaine Anderson, but the DC goalkeeper Joe Willis managed to keep them out.
Nearing the end, Romario Campbell also added his bit with an angled shot but Willis was well placed to avert any danger.
Waterhouse will face DC United for the return fixture in Jamaica on September 16.
