Fire guts Portland guest house at Drapers
PORTLAND, Jamaica — Fire of unknown origin early Thursday morning gutted a four-bedroom guest house ‘Search Mi Heart’ at Drapers in Portland, leaving four guests stranded.
One guest, a visitor from Italy, Jeuseppe Sorrente said that he and his partner were able to secure their clothing and travel documents as the fire spread, but they are now without somewhere to stay.
“I was sleeping there and my girlfriend smelled smoke. After that [we heard] a big boom and we saw the smoke coming in the room and under the door so we opened the door and ran out taking our bags.”
“We are on holiday here in Jamaica and it is the fourth day … now we can look how we do this holiday because we don’t have the guest house,” said Sorrente.
The other three visitors, shaken by the ordeal, refused to speak on the matter.
An estimate of the damage was not ascertained.
