Bib tag timing for CUMI Run
MONTEGO BAY, St James — ELECTRONIC bib tag timing will be used in western Jamaica for the first time during the sixth Tryall Resorts CUMI Come Run event to be staged at Tryall Resort in Sandy Bay, Hanover, on September 20.
The announcement was made at last Thursday’s press launch of the event that will be used to help raise funds for the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI). It was held at Robin’s Prime Restaurant on Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay.
In a statement from Running Events Ltd, the organisers of the event, read by chairman of the organising committee Junior Taylor, it was announced that “for the first time in Montego Bay the electronic bib tag timing system will be used”, bringing the timing of the race in line with international standards.
“The essence of bib tag timing is a simple disposable timing chip that is attached to the runner’s bib. The chip relays timing information once the runner or walker goes over timing mats, which are located at strategic points along the route,” said the statement.
“With the use of the system there will be no use for official timers at the end of the route to remove the timing bibs.”
In his presentation, Taylor added that the committee is expecting another successful staging, adding that members “had been working since April trying to make it as successful as last year”.
The events will include a 5K walk, a 5K run and a 10K run.
Taylor said the top three competitors in both runs will receive prizes.
Other prizes, he added, will include the largest corporate team award, hotel challenge and corporate challenge.
The run will start at 7:00 am.
