SumeRR set to make her mark
FEMALE singer SumeRR is anticipating a favourable response to her latest single Concrete Jungle. Recorded on the NSD/Fire Force label, the single is slated to be released next month end.
“Concrete Jungle is about all the struggles I’ve been through. It’s basically just looking at the world and all its obstacles as a literal Jungle,” said SumeRR. With the theme universal, she said it would be no problem connecting with listeners as many are faced with the same challenges.
SumeRR, whose given name is Tressan Barnett, said she is willing to put in the hard work to make it in Jamaica’s male-dominated music business.
“Music in Jamaica is seriously challenging, especially for females… However, I don’t let it get me down, cause what’s to be must be. SumeRR isn’t made to do anything else, and I can feel it in my gut, my soul, my heart… that my time will come,” the 21-year-old told the Jamaica Observer.
She is currently attending the University of the West Indies and majors in journalism.
SumeRR got her taste of the music business when she entered the Digicel Rising Stars talent competition in 2011.
She was, however, eliminated in the studio finals rounds. “After Rising Stars, my cousin Andy Holness, now my manager, decided to help me take my music to another level,” she said.
Holness opened the studio St Bess Records and with it came her first single Jessie James. She has since recorded other songs including Young Gal, Lonely Love, Country Bus, SumeRR Time, and Tears of Nature
