‘Powda’ of Jolly Boys dies
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Joseph Bennett, a member of the Jolly Boys band died Wednesday morning.
Affectionately known as ‘Powda’, Bennett was 76 years old.
“He will always be remembered as the cheeky little fellow who danced and shook his maracas on shows throughout the world and especially at home in the regular Jolly Boys spot on Friday nights at the Bushbar and on the Trident terrace,” said a Jolly Boys fan and associate.
The Jolly Boys, specialists of the Mento beat, are well known in the Jamaican tourism sector and have performed worldwide. Information on Bennett’s remembrance service, which will be held in Port Antonio, Portland, will be made public later.
