Bahamas swimmer Evans breaks national record in China
NANJING, China (CMC) — The Bahamas athlete Joanna Evans broke another national record when she captured bronze while competing in the 800m freestyle at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in China yesterday.
Evans secured third place after clocking 8:39.75 minutes, her second national record in two months.
The Grand Bahama swimmer had set a national record for the women’s 800 metres freestyle by completing the distance in 8:41.39 minutes for seventh place at last month’s Commonwealth Games, following her record-breaking swim at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Dubai last year.
Jamaica’s Timothy Wynter finished sixth in his first-round heat of the men’s 100m backstroke and failed to advance, while their men’s beach volleyball team lost 2-0 to Brazil.
