Trainer Steadman Curtis really stepping it up
QUIETLY without much fanfare, as is his nature, trainer Steadman Curtis is reaping the benefits of his long years of association with horse racing.
Cutis notched his seventh winner for the season from 23 starts on Saturday last when Step It Up won over the five straight course in the top-claiming bracket. Steadily and with conviction, Step It Up has been climbing up the claiming ladder, racing as far down as $180,000 in February of
this year.
The long-time conditioner claimed Step It Up on June 1 and has raced the five-year-old bay gelding four times finishing third, first, first and first on Saturday thereby completing a nice triple for himself and owner Orville Johnson.
Jockey Robert Halledeen must also take some of the praise in the success of Step It Up. Halledeen has been in the saddle four of the five times the Dayton Flyer — Constant Girl offspring has won
this year.
Step It Up has done well and Curtis and Halledeen must be congratulated.
