H’View, Arnett continue winning ways in Women’s League
ARNETT Gardens secured their second win in Zone A of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League when they got by Olympic Gardens 3-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Wednesday.
The ‘Junglists’ went on the hunt from the first whistle as Asheina Nelson put them in front with a goal in the first minute. Peta-Gaye Smith made it 2-0 with a ninth-minute strike, after which Shantel Bailey took the game out of the reach of their opponents in the 15th minute.
The second-half failed to produce a goal despite numerous goal-scoring opportunities falling to Arnett Gardens.
Winning coach Orlando Clarke, while expressing some measure of satisfaction, said his team is a work in progress.
“Our confidence in front of goal is lacking, we created a lot of chances but we are not finishing. It is a work in progress because we haven’t had a lot of training sessions with these girls so we just have to continue to train and they will improve,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Meanwhile, Michael Peart expressed disappointment over losing the opening game.
“We played a good second half, because we didn’t concede any goals in the second half. We took too long to settle in the game and that is something that we will be working on for the remainder of the season,” he said.
Meanwhile, Harbour View defeated Boys’ Town by a similar margin in Zone B action at Collie Smith Drive. Shavell Martin scored a brace in the 10th and 92nd minutes to ensure that the East Kingston-based team opened their account positively as they condemned Boys’ Town to their second defeat from as many games.
Georgette White, with a composed run down the right flank, netted Harbour View’s second goal in the 70th minute.
The competition continues on Saturday.
