Elusive thief plaguing Sterling Castle residents
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Residents of Sterling Castle, Red Hills in St Andrew say they are being terrorised by a brazen thief who has been staging several break-ins in the rural community.
Residents say that despite their best efforts to catch the hoodlum he has always managed to elude them.
The robber’s last strike was on Wednesday night when he broke into a home and stole several appliances and personal effects.
“The man short and thick. Him know the bushes well [because] we round up a posse fi try and catch him but him sipple. Every time we make after him, him get weh. Nobody can hold him. Him come een like a rat,” a resident told OBSERVER ONLINE.
The concerned residents say that the robberies have been going on for about two weeks and despite numerous reports to the police there has been no increase in police presence in the area.
“Him go inna one man house and thief ring, chain, phone, money and hat. Him all go inna my brethren yard and thief him laptop,” another man said.
The residents are adamant that if the police are unable to nab the perpetrator they are willing to take matters into their own hands.
“We call them and them nah do nothing. The police nah do nothing. We haffi go use jungle justice,” a resident warned.
“All the police them do is come into the square and look at the youths. Them nah do a thing,” another added.
