Huge crowd for Sumfest opener
IT was an impressive start to Reggae Sumfest 2014 as a huge crowd turned out for the Sumfest Beach Party at Aquasol Theme Park in Montego Bay, St James, on Sunday.
From as early as midday patrons began pouring in the venue, many with the FIFA World Cup final between Germany and Argentina on their minds. The match was, however, projected on a massive screen, much to their delight.
With the match out of the way, DJ Crazy Neil took over the turntable controls and made light work of getting patrons into a ‘feel good’ mood with selections which ranged from Bob Marley to Machel Montano.
Radio personality Miss Kitty, the evening’s host, upped the ante with her hilarious and boundary-pushing antics. She provided Reggae Sumfest tickets and Digicel credit for lucky winners during the onstage promotions.
The evening’s energy level never waned, with musical juggling rounds from DJ Nicco, ZJ Sparkes and sound system Coppershot.
As the Jamaica Observer team made its exit close to 11:00 pm, dancehall act Twin of Twins was making their entry on stage with patrons still streaming in through the gates.
Reggae Sumfest activities continue tonight with the All White Party at Pier One in Montego Bay.
Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre in Montego Bay is the venue for Dancehall Night slated for Thursday, International Night 1 on Friday, and International Night 2 on Saturday.
