Supreme Ventures Business House Volleyball Finals on today
THE 2014 staging of the Supreme Ventures Business House Volleyball League will come to a pulsating close today at the UWI Gymnasium, with play starting at 9:00 am.
This 10th staging of the league has seen keen competition since the tournament began on June 1, and now approaching the final day of play, the men’s and mixed semifinalists are chomping at the bit, eager to see who will move on to the finals.
Action will begin in arresting fashion with the last mixed quarterfinal game between AMECO and the JUTC set to establish the pace for the intense action to follow. Volleyball fans will then be treated to the female skills challenge elimination, an exciting display of the range of skills and techniques that make up the game of volleyball.
JCF will then come up against the UWI Staff team, perennial contenders for the mixed title, in a 10:40 am semi-final.
The winner of the AMECO-JUTC encounter will then face the JDF in the next semifinal, scheduled for 11:50 am. The winners of these semi-finals will then face-off in the final for the mixed division, slated for 4:20 pm. Other finals on the day will include the men’s and women’s match-ups scheduled for 2:00 and 3:10 pm, respectively.
The men’s final will feature the two most consistent teams over the course of the tournament, the JCF and the JUTC, and should be a riveting battle to determine the winner. The police officers have demonstrated several dominant displays over the course of the competition, which would see them entering the day as favourites. However, in a face-off dubbed the ‘clash of the government agencies’, the JUTC will be looking to spoil the party and lift the title.
If the men’s final will be providing sparks, then the women’s final is expected to burst into flames with the two title favourites, UWI Staff and BOJ Gators slated to do battle on the biggest stage of all. BOJ will be looking to dethrone the defending champions UWI, who will look to last year’s MVP and captain Renae Temple for inspiration to tranquilise the Gators and complete their title defence.
The awards and closing ceremony will then follow at 5:30 pm with awards for men’s and women’s BHVL-MVPs and the announcement of the winners of the skills challenge competitions all set to be revealed.
