Wray & Nephew donates $6m to JBBC
IN a move that further cements the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum as the leading corporate supporter of local boxing, the brand has announced that it has donated $6,000,000 to the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control.
The sponsorship will go towards the boxing board’s Road to Rio campaign to have a Jamaican boxing contingent in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Cecil Smith, group brand manager for Rums at J Wray & Nephew Limited, spoke on the partnership between both parties:
“Jamaica is on its way to becoming a global sporting mecca, and the revitalisation of our nation as a serious contender in the professional boxing world is another step in the right direction. Partnering with the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control represents our confidence in our local boxers on the world stage, coming off the heels of their great performance against their Caribbean counterparts in this season of the Wray & Nephew Contender.”
The finals of the Wray & Nephew Contender will be taking place on July 9, at the National Indoor Arena. The finalists in the Caribbean boxing series are Tsetsi Davis and Sakima Mullings.
