Robert Rainford returns to court
ROBERT Rainford, who was dismissed from his post as permanent secretary and then ordered reinstated into the public service, has now filed an appeal in relation to the Supreme Court decision in his favour.
In documents filed with the Court of Appeal, Rainford is contending that Justice David Batts erred earlier this month when he did not quash a letter giving him 14 days within which to indicate if he would like the matter referred to the local committee of the Privy Council.
Justice Batts had only quashed Rainford’s letter of dismissal issued by the governor general because he stood surety for former Cash Plus boss Carlos Hill.
Rainford was terminated in September last year from his post of permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government after it emerged that he stood surety for Hill.
Rainford is asking the court for a stay of the letter, pending the determination of his appeal. He was originally dismissed without being given the 14-day period to decide if he wanted the decision to terminate his service to go to the local Privy Council.
