TONIGHT’S first semi-final bout between Jamaica’s Tsetsi Davis and Guyana’s Howard Eastman in the 2014 Wray & Nephew Contender Boxing series for the Jamaica Ultimate Welterweight title will be shifted to the Wray & Nephew Contender Coliseum situated between Port Royal Street and Water Lane in downtown Kingston.

The other semi-final bout between Sakimo Mullings and Donovan ‘Police’ Campbell is also scheduled for the same venue next Wednesday.

To reach this stage of the contest with a rosy purse of $2 million awaiting the overall winner, ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman knocked out Derrick ‘Guts’ Spencer in three rounds in the preliminaries, then had to go hunting a fleet-of-foot Kevin ‘Bus Boy’ Hylton to earn an honourable decision.

Last year’s beaten finalist ,’Lights Out’ Davis, took an easy decision against Guyana’s Derrick ‘Dangerous’ Richmond in the opening match before out-pointing Ramel ‘Sub Zero’ Lewis at the quarter-final stage.

In tonight’s encounter, Davis will face a different kind of animal and will have to put him to rest to come out on top as Eastman can take a punch and still stare you in the face.

Eastman seldom wastes punches. He is not as fast as he once was, but Davis better not be fooled by that. Here is a master craftsman who picks his spots well with telling effect.

“The venue that we have chosen and which we have named The Wray & Nephew Coliseum is much bigger than our home at the CBA and will allow more Jamaicans to watch these two highly anticipated matches live,” said Cecil Smith, group manager for Rums at J Wray & Nephew.

“We are planning to extend our very popular Wray & Nephew Contender Fan Zone so that patrons will have the opportunity to engage in a number of exciting activities and win prizes before the start of the fights. We will also be hosting an after-party at the venue after the fights,” Smith added.

General admission to the fight remains at $500 with $1,000 to the VIP. Parking will be accommodated at the Transport Centre which is situated next to the venue. As per usual, the Fan Zone that includes two amateur bouts will run from 7:00 pm to approximately 9:30 pm.

Boxers will step up from six rounds to eight for their semi-final clashes.
