D-Day for Premier League hopefuls
Three teams have it all to play for in today’s final round of matches in the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) All-island Confederation Play-offs.
Reno FC, Barbican FC and Jamalco FC are tied on eight points each and all three have a chance to qualify for Premier League football next season.
Axum FC, the fourth team in the play-offs, are out of contention with only two points from their five matches.
At the Wembley Excellence Centre in Clarendon, the Jamalco outfit will host former national champions Reno in a mouth-watering do-or-die contest.
The Jamalco football team, founded in the 2010-11 season, has to win to be certain of a first-ever promotion place, while Reno, who lead the table due to their superior goal-difference, need only a point.
When the teams met at Reno’s base at the Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland in the first leg, the Clarendon-based team suffered a 0-3 defeat.
In today’s other encounter, Kingston & St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) representatives Barbican, who are in second spot, will travel to St Mary to battle Axum.
Regardless of the other result, Barbican only need to avoid defeat to the cellar team to be assured of top flight football in the coming campaign.
In their previous clash, Barbican came from behind to beat Axum 2-1 at the Barbican Complex.
Both matches today are scheduled to commence at 3:30 pm.
