Sts Peter & Paul, Portmore Missionary win in Prep TT
Two matches were played as the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) Prep Schools’ competition continued recently. And in the results, two former champions scored victories — Portmore Missionary blanked Queens 5-0 and Sts Peter & Paul clipped St Andrew 3-2.
Portmore Missionary are coached by Colin McNeish, Queens by George Gordon, Sts Peter & Paul by Rohan Schloss and St Andrew by Dale Parham.
The Portmore Missionary/Queens match belongs to Group One of the two-group competition and after that result, three-time defending champions Hillel (One) still lead the standings. They are on maximum 10 points, ahead of Portmore Missionary on nine points, Queens, on six points and Holy Childhood, on five points. Each team have one match remaining to complete their fixtures.
The Sts Peter & Paul versus St Andrew duel was a Group Two affair and Sts Peter & Paul extended their lead atop the standings with the victory. They now have maximum 14 points, followed by St Andrew on 13 points, Hillel (Two) on 10 points, with both Vaz and Emmanuel on seven points each. St Andrew have played all their matches, while the other four teams each have one match left.
The top two finishers from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
In individual results in the Portmore Missionary/Queens encounter, Nicholas Morgan outplayed Luque Lockhart 3-1, Brianna Mundell overwhelmed Sheirma Pierre-Bott 3-0, Justin Nelson outlasted Jon Paul Boland 3-2, Danielle Irving got by Samantha Morrison 3-1 and Thomas Savoury defeated Jahleel Troupe 3-1, for Portmore Missionary’s 5-0 triumph.
In the Sts Peter & Paul’s 3-2 win over St Andrew, Jessica Mullings overpowered Jhana Downie 3-0, Fiona Li cruised past Brianna Blake 3-0, and Nathan Chin beat Kymani Getfield 3-1, for Sts Peter & Paul’s three wins.
Jon Pierre Daley pipped Alessio Tulloch 3-2 and Cezare McGhie nipped Zaniel Knight 3-2 for St Andrew’s two consolation victories.
Meanwhile, the venue for the semi-finals and final, as well as individual events, has been changed to the GC Foster College, the date remaining Friday, June 20, starting at 9:00 am.
The top two teams from each of the two groups will cross over in semi-finals, to be followed by the final. Individual events will be in Under-12 and Under-10 categories, for boys and girls.
