Sunshine Girls battle Barbados
THE Sunshine Girls will play a three-game friendly series against their Caribbean neighbours Barbados from June 20-22 at GC Foster College.
Both teams will be using the series to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, in July 2014.
The three-game series will be played over the weekend of June 20, 21, and 22 at the GC Foster College. The Friday match is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm, with the matches on the 21st and 22nd to begin at 5:30 pm.
Technical Director Jill McIntosh said, “The Sunshine Girls squad is really looking forward to the opportunity to play Barbados. It will provide us with some much-needed match play as some difficult decisions need to be made before the final 12 players to contest the Commonwealth Games is announced on July 2. We would like to thank Barbados, who took up the invitation to play the matches at very short notice.”
Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, who plays professionally in New Zealand and continues to impress and set records in the ANZ Championships, will be home to contest the series. She was recently named at number three on the top 10 netball players in the world list.
At the Commonwealth Games, Jamaica is drawn in Pool A with New Zealand, Malawi, Scotland, Northern Ireland and St Lucia, with the first match on July 24 vs St Lucia.
The Sunshine Girls squad comprises of Nicole Aiken-Pinnock, Romelda Aiken, Shanice Beckford, Nicole Dixon, Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, Thristina Harwood, Shantal Slater, Deneen Taylor, Sasher-Gaye Henry, Patricia McCalla, Paula Thompson, Khadijah Williams, Kasey Evering, Stacian Facey, Malysha Kelly, Kadene Marshall, Shamera Sterling, and Vangelee Williams.
