International sex trafficking suspects held in London
LONDON (AP) — During a series of dawn raids, the new Trafficking and Kidnap Unit of London’s Metropolitan Police has arrested six people suspected of sex trafficking.
Police said Wednesday the men have been arrested for trafficking for sexual exploitation, controlling prostitution and money laundering. More than 100 females are believed to have been the victims of trafficking.
The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation of a Hungarian organised crime group. London’s police force was already looking into the gang’s activity following a tip from Hungarian police when they were contacted by an alleged victim of the group who had managed to escape.
Police say the UK brothels were offering unprotected sex to customers via websites.
The gang is thought to operate similar brothels in Belgium, Austria and Germany.
