BARBICAN FC’s coach Denton Shedden was left disappointed after his team’s 0-0 result against Jamalco FC in yesterday’s Jamaica Football Federation All-Island Confederation Play-off match at the Barbican Complex.

With the draw, Barbican moved to seven points from four games, the same as Reno FC, who have the slight edge due to a superior goal difference. Jamalco remain third with five points, while last-placed Axum FC, who held Reno to a 0-0 stalemate in St Mary, follow with two.

The top two teams at the end of this home-and-away, round-robin competition qualify for top-flight football next season.

“We are disappointed with not getting the three points. We were basically more defensive than I would have liked and we failed to shoot at goal.

“At the end there was some frustration with players losing their head and we had the red cards. But we are still good and just need to regroup and have a big game next against Reno (on Sunday),” Shedden said.

Jamalco coach Rayon Johnson appeared pleased with the point garnered.

“Basically, we came out and fought hard for the three points, but I’m glad to grab a point. It was a cat-and-mouse game between us but credit to my team for how they came out,” Johnson said.

A win for Barbican would have put them in a good position to qualify for top-tier club football next season, but at the end it was Jamalco who looked the stronger of the teams on a rugged, uneven playing surface.

Barbican finished the game with nine players after Akino Bailey was handed a straight red card for a wild challenge on an opponent with four minutes remaining.

On the stroke of the 90th minute, Andrew McLeod followed his teammate when he received a second yellow card for a professional foul. McLeod had been given his first yellow in minute 16.
